Prepare For The Journey

The Moment

While thinking about vacations, flights, and destinations, I began to reflect on how much preparation goes into traveling. As with any mission, journey, or vacation, once the

destination is booked, preparation begins.

How long is the flight?

What is the weather like?

What is the culture like where we’re headed? What are the rules and laws?

What should we expect financially? Should we save money? Budget differently?

Prepare for layovers?

There’s a lot of preparation that needs to take place before the journey even begins.

We can’t simply book, board, land, and enjoy the destination without first preparing for what’s necessary to sustain us along the way.

Reflection

One thing that stood out to me while thinking about flying was turbulence.

Some turbulence is uncomfortable.

Some turbulence is unexpected.

Some turbulence can create anxiety, worry, fear, and uncertainty, especially for someone who has never experienced it before.

But what’s interesting is that not all turbulence means danger.

Sometimes turbulence is simply a part of the journey.

Sometimes it’s just enough to alert you.

Enough to awaken you.

Enough to make you aware that you’re moving.

And sometimes, turbulence prepares passengers for future flights.

What once created fear eventually becomes something recognized and understood through experience.

The next time turbulence comes, they are often better equipped mentally, emotionally, and physically to endure it.

The Shift

The same way this is true naturally is the same way this is true spiritually.

God has already chosen us.

He has already called us.

Our steps are ordered by the Lord.

Our destination is already set.

Yet many of us struggle when it comes to purpose, calling, and preparation for where God is taking us.

Not because God failed to establish the destination…

But because preparation is uncomfortable.

Revelation

Many of us want the promise without the process.

We want arrival without preparation.

We want purpose without discipline.

We want elevation without endurance.

But preparation is necessary for sustainability.

Because what good is arriving somewhere you were never prepared to handle?

Turbulence

Some spiritual turbulence is not sent to destroy you.

Some turbulence:

  • strengthens you

  • matures you

  • develops endurance

  • builds wisdom

  • exposes weak areas

  • teaches dependence on God

And sometimes, the turbulence is simply confirmation that movement is taking place.

You are no longer standing still.

You are in transition.

Scripture

Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Psalm 37:23 (KJV)

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

Truth

Some of us are asking God for arrival while resisting preparation.

...But if God is preparing you for something greater, then naturally there will be stretching, discipline, discomfort, and even turbulence along the way.

Because destinations require preparation.

And purpose does too.

Don’t Waste the Turbulence

Not every uncomfortable season is an attack.

Not every hardship is the enemy.

And not every form of turbulence means the plane is crashing.

Sometimes turbulence is preparation.

Sometimes God allows uncomfortable moments to strengthen us, mature us, expose

weak areas, develop discipline, and prepare us for where we are headed.

So instead of immediately asking God to remove every difficult season, maybe we should first ask:

“Lord, what are You trying to teach me through this?”

Because if we never learn from the turbulence, we may never be properly prepared for the destination.

Take Inventory

Instead of complaining about the turbulence, ask yourself:

What is this season trying to prepare me for?

What areas of my life still lack discipline, consistency, wisdom, or maturity?

And most importantly…

Am I truly preparing for where I’ve been praying to go?

Because if we truly believe God is taking us somewhere greater…

We must prepare accordingly.

Closing

Maybe the turbulence was never meant to stop you.

Maybe it was meant to prepare you.

Maybe the delays developed patience.

Maybe the stretching developed endurance.

Maybe the uncertainty revealed where your trust truly was.

And maybe the reason this season feels uncomfortable is because God is preparing you for something your current version has not yet fully grown into.

Because no pilot begins a flight expecting there to never be turbulence.

And no traveler arrives at a destination without first enduring the journey.

So perhaps instead of fearing every uncomfortable season, we should begin asking ourselves:

Am I resisting the very thing God is using to prepare me?

Because if God has truly called us somewhere greater, then preparation is not optional.

It is necessary.

Let Us Pray:

Father, in the name of Jesus, help me not to despise the process of preparation.

When seasons become uncomfortable, give me the wisdom to discern whether You are developing me rather than simply allowing me to be disturbed.

Teach me how to endure with faith, trust You in uncertainty, and remain steady even in turbulence.

Expose the areas within me that still need discipline, maturity, consistency, healing, and surrender.

Prepare my mind, my heart, my spirit, and my character for where You are taking me.

And Lord, do not allow me to arrive prematurely in places I have not yet been prepared to sustain.

Help me to trust Your timing, Your process, and Your hand over my life.

Because if my steps are truly ordered by You, then I know every season has purpose.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
